Q . A s a m e d i c a l professional, how are you able to mainstream Christian principles and values in your everyday life?
Answer: Many years back, I had the inclination that for me to excel in my profession and life, I had to intentionally and consistently covet, imbibe and apply the learnt /acquired virtues to everyday life challenges. I remember that at a time, I desired more knowledge especially in the area of Nutrition which I consider to be the foundation of the Lifestyle diseases. As I started making moves to seek an institution to go and study, I suddenly had the inspiration that the Bible has something to say about everything. I realized that most books on health, leadership, prosperity etc. take their theme from the Bible and consequently expand on it. I therefore elected to deliberately read, study, meditate and internalize those areas of the bible that concerns health, strength, fasting, eating, sickness, diseases. I now realized that your health is far beyond what you do or fail to do concerning eating, drinking and fasting. I realized the power of emotions on general health (Guard your heart with due diligence for out of it are the issues of life). I realized that your service to God can impact positively on your health Exodus 23: 25-26). I now forced myself to know more of the scriptures by enrolling in the Believers class, Workers-in-Training and most recently the School of Disciples’ program. I am currently a Sunday school teacher, and chairman of the medical advisory group and a mentor to some people.
Via the story of Daniel, I deliberately imbibed the culture of excellence Daniel 6:3, Diligence Proverbs 22:29. Via Joseph I understood the leadership concept of prevention, proactive action as he proffered a way forward after the i n t e r p r e t a t i o n o f Pharaoh’s dream. I soon found myself giving Health enlightenment l e c t u r e s t o M e n ‘ s Fellowship of churches where health is linked to the scriptures.
As a frontline Physician, I have realized that the people I consult often come along with deep s e a t e d e m o t i o n a l problems and other challenges. I use my God g i v e n m e d i c a l / communication skills to drag out this information which are not readily volunteered by the clients. I spontaneously offer Christian-based advice i.e. fasting, Christian service, bodily exercise 1st Tim 4:8, forgiveness, encouragement, comfort, prayers, soul winning and ultimately solution to such client’s problem in a way they cannot obtain in conventional hospitals.
Q. Please share your salvation experience with us
A. Like most people who are educated and privileged, the God factor does not seem to come spontaneously i.e. the things of God are foolishness unto them. After I had been humbled by failure to achieve or attain certain goals in life and committed some errors of life, and suffered critical setbacks in life, I soon came to myself (Like the prodigal son) that by strength shall no man prevail. I remember that I gave my life to Christ in Lagos in 1999. After a few flipflops/ backsliding I eventually manifested Gal 5:1 in 2004. From then on it has been a wonderful walk in the Faith.
Q. Specifically, tell us the secrets of how you are able to overcome anger, unforgiveness, lust, pride, love of money and all other things we struggle with daily as human beings.
A. How I was able to overcome the vices that we struggle with daily:
Anger: Knowing that Anger lies in the bosom of fools, I have learnt to restrain myself. To further quench anger I appraise the person that wants to make me angry. More often than not, I note that I carry a higher grace (I detect elements of an u n b e l i e v e r, b a b y Christian, malice, envy/Jealousy etc) than such people and would not condescend to their level. It is like quarrelling with a drunkard.
Unforgiveness: The s c r i p t u r e s d e c r y unforgiveness. In Luke 17:1 Jesus said you cannot avoid offence in this world. We are commanded to forgive in the Lord’s prayer (Matt 6:9). Consequences of unforgiveness includes an entrance to demonic attacks, cancers and other ill health.
Lust: Lust is an evil temptation i.e. an enticement to do evil. It is not of the Father but of the world. More of a sexual connotation. Knowing that James 1: 14-15 said lust after conceiving results in sin! And Sin results ultimately in ‘death’. Joseph ed from fornication with Potiphar’s wife and ultimately secured his destiny and purpose. The bible warns/commands us to ee also youthful lust 2nd Tim 2:22 and a b s t a i n f r o m a l l appearances of evil 1st Thessalonians 5:22. The inevitable consequences of my destiny being eroded because of lust make me to flee fornication 1st Corinthians 6:1
Pride: Pride goes before a fall. God resist the proud and gives grace to the humble James 4:6. Humble yourself before the Lord and he will exalt you. Therefore knowing this, I have avoided this vice and I have received the promise of grace. I have seen humility carry people to great heights!
Love of Money : Knowing that the love of money is the root of all evils. God forbids covetousness. 1st Timothy 6:6-10 rather encourages us to be contented. Knowing this I see money as a servant that must be wisely deployed. Matt 6:33 says seek ye the kingdom of God and all other things will be added over to you inclusive of money, wealth, health, peace etc. I would rather follow well laid out biblical principles that attracts prosperity i.e. offerings, tithes, giving, diligence, service, sacrice, knowledge etc
Q. What’s the most important thing for living a good life?
A. I believe the bible is real and not just a story book. Embedded are multiple promises and blessings God has promised those that abide in him! The words of God are yea and Amen. He changeth not. Jesus Christ yesterday, today and forever! The Integrity of God is sure. Knowing this I understand and stand firmly on Matt 6:33 ‘Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness and all other things will be added over to you’. I also stand on the promise of God in John 10:10b ‘ I have come to give you life and give you more abundantly’ Simply put I desire a victorious life attainable only in the context of being connected at all times to the vine John 15: 1,5. While in the ‘world I stumbled and fumbled without divine knowledge. Since I am in Christ now with divine knowledge 2nd Peter 1:3 and serving in God’s vineyard and practicing God’s principles and acquisition of his virtues i.e. love, joy, peace, g e n t l e n e s s , t e m p e r a n c e , honesty, forgiveness, c o n t e n t m e n t , i n c l u d i n g 1 s t Corinthians 4:1-7, I have experienced a P E A C E F U L , C O N T E N T E D , P R O G R E S S I V E , P R O S P E R O U S a n d ABUNDANT LIFE. Has there been challenges? Plenty, i.e. delays in payments, repaying my g o o d w i t h e v i l , oppressions, relationship issues etc, but knowing the saying of Jesus Christ in Luke 17:1 i.e It is impossible to avoid offence in this world’ but many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord saw me through them all became manifest in my life.
